County OKs fire suppression system bid

Nov 21, 2012 (Palestine Herald-Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- During a brief special meeting on Tuesday, Anderson County Commissioners OK'd a bid for a special fire suppression system for use in the courthouse annex computer, telephone and radio rooms.

According to County Judge Robert Johnston, the annex's current fire suppression system involves the use of water building-wide, which would destroy those electronic systems that are vital to the county.

The new system, the judge said, utilizes a chemical to extinguish any fires that occur in those areas.

"Especially since we are getting a new phone system, this is something we have to address," Johnston said.

Tammy Lightfoot, Anderson County Emergency Management Coordinator, presented three bids to the court -- from Victory Sound of Whitehouse, East Texas Fire Protection of Palestine and Impact Fire Services of Tyler.

"All of them included the installation of a chemical suppression system," Lightfoot said. "The county will have to do the sealing work and provide the 120 electric box they will need to install it." Commissioners approved the bid from Impact Fire Services, which totaled $20,579.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners approved a "master services" contract with IBM for the software system used by county justices of the peace. No dollar amount was involved in the contract.
