ZeroTurnaround Announces Release of Updated Plug-in for IBM WebSphere 8.5
By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
Java application developers seeking to accelerate time-to-market by streamlining Java application development and boost productivity by eliminating the need to restart application servers, can now start leveraging ZeroTurnaround’s new updated plug-in for IBM (News - Alert) WebSphere Version 8.5 (WAS v8.5) and Liberty profile server.
ZeroTurnaround is a company that has changed the way developers develop, test and run Java applications through its Hotpatching technology-powered JRebel plug-in and LiveRebel rollout/rollback tool.
JRebel, in general, is a JVM-plug-in that facilitates Java developers to instantly see any code change made to an app without redeploying. It allows users to see code changes instantly, versioning classes and resources individually and updating one at a time instead of as a lump application redeploy.
Technically, JRebel is a javaagent that integrates with the JVM and rewrites each class to be updateable. It versions each class individually, instead of an entire application or module at a time. Primarily, it works based on three specific areas of Java and the JVM, namely Java classes, framework configuration changes, and workspace mapping.
The new updated plug-in for IBM WebSphere Version 8.5 (WAS v8.5), including Liberty profile server, reflects the tight integration between WAS v 8.5 and ZeroTurnaround’s JRebel 5.1.
This tight integration between WAS v 8.5 and ZeroTurnaround’s JRebel 5.1 helps in significantly boosting productivity for Java application developers by eliminating the need to restart application servers, or so to say it eliminates redeploying, by automatically enabling users to see changes to class structures, resource files and framework configuration files.
Consequently, this integration between v 8.5 and ZeroTurnaround’s JRebel 5.1 accelerates time-to-market by streamlining Java application development. According to ZeroTurnaround’s Java EE Productivity Report 2011, the JRebel plug-in saves an average of 10.5 minutes per coding hour.
“IBM is significantly invested in systems that improve productivity,” said Jevgeni Kabanov, founder and CEO of ZeroTurnaround, in a statement. “ZeroTurnaround’s JRebel is a natural fit for WebSphere and Liberty profile servers and we’re anticipating that the community will see real productivity gains by taking advantage of this plug-in.”
In recent news, ZeroTurnaround announced the availability of LiveRebel 2.5. This new edition of the tool enables continuous delivery of Java applications - right from development through QA and operations, to the user - rapidly and reliably, without downtime or user interruption.
