CloudOne Couples Rational Tools with IBM's SmartCloud for Government
By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) provider CloudOne announced Wednesday that it will provide its cloud-based Rational tools for government customers by way of IBM's SmartCloud for Government Infrastructure. Combining IBM's (News - Alert) government-specific infrastructure with SaaS-based Rational tools and managed services from CloudOne, the company has created a consumption-based development and test environment for government clients.
This collaborative solution allows government customers to use CloudOne Rational tools while still meeting the needs of Federal IT security policies and mandates. Furthermore, this pairing allows for a more cost-effective software development solution able to meet the government's strenuous requirements.
"The combined offering is the best of both companies. By building up from a strong infrastructure service and then layering on CloudOne offerings for SaaS licensing as well as our managed services, we can meet the needs of clients demanding software development in the cloud with higher security and data integrity requirements," said Randy Seager, vice president of strategic accounts for CloudOne. "With this solution, many public sector clients requiring the strict security of a FISMA compliant development environments now can get access to the Rational tools with the benefits CloudOne offers."
SmartCloud for Government uses a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) architecture, featuring options for expandable memory, disk space, bandwidth, dedicated firewalls and load-balancers, and standard operating systems. It also sports a set of software services such as email, real-time collaboration and social tools.
In other CloudOne news, the company announced earlier this week that it is expanding its hosted SaaS testing program to include performance, load and stress tests made available in hourly increments.
CloudOne also announced on Monday that it is launching the CloudOne Affiliate Reseller Program. This new program aims to increase the company's global footprint and its worldwide partner network by enlisting in-country business partners around the world to help expand the use of CloudOne services.
